About WEEE and The Producer Recycling Fund Contribution From 13th August 2005 under the new WEEE regulations Lennox, Laboratory Supplies Ltd. will accept Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) at our premises from consumers (Primary & Secondary Schools) free of charge on a one for one basis. Lennox takes all our environmental obligations seriously and comply with all relevant legislation. These regulations are designed to promote the recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment. They will facilitate in particular the achievement of the targets for the collection, treatment, recovery and disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment in an environmentally sound manner established by directive 2002/96/EC on waste electrical and electronic equipment. The regulations impose obligations on persons who supply electrical and electronic equipment to the Irish market, whether as retailers, importers or manufactures. How WEEE works…. Take back is on a one for one basis only and the product must be of a similar type or have performed the same function as the new item purchased from Lennox Laboratory Supplies Ltd. For example if you are buying a new DVD Recorder we will take back your old DVD Recorder and ensure that it is disposed of in an environmentally correct manner. However if you are buying a DVD Recorder, you cannot return a kiln, freezer etc in its place. What’s the reason for displaying PRFC costs? The idea of showing Environmental Management Costs is to ensure that the system is transparent. We display the Producer Recycling Fund Contribution (PRF) only on EEE (Electrical & Electronic Equipment) items. Returning Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment? If you are returning electrical appliances then you should carry this out at our trade counter. Once you purchase an EEE (Electrical & Electronic Equipment) item we will be happy to take back your old appliance once it is of a similar type. We will not be obliged to take back contaminated WEEE that presents a health and safety risk. If you are purchasing a new electrical/electronic product but forget to bring your old one back on the day of purchase you will have 15 days to return it to our premises. Please ensure you keep your receipt for the new electrical/electronic item and present this at the trade counter when returning the old electrical/electronic item. What about delivered items? If you are purchasing an electrical/electronic item and choose to have it delivered then we will arrange collection, free of charge of the old unit, provided that it performs a similar function as the new item purchased, does not pose a health and safety risk and it is presented in a safe manner for transport in an area accessible to our courier or representative. Civic amenity centres, of which there are approximately 64 located throughout the country, will allow consumers (Schools) to dispose of all old electronic equipment free of charge.
